The Appian Way Bridge I (or Bridge Appia) by John Vassar House (JVH) is the first of a new kind. JVH will actually cast more than 60 bridges between 1962 and 1965.

The radical change is not only in the supporting form and balance but also in how the bridge is built and then cast in bronze. An exhibit of bridges in Galleria d’arte Il Bilico, Rome was held in March 1962.

After 6 years since arrival in Rome, the Appian Way is a recognition of how much the history and art of the city impacted JVH.
