The proposal for a commemorative sculpture for Albert Einstein’s centennial was commenced by John Vassar House sculptor (JVH) 4 years before the due date. JVH contacted many scientific, technical, political and industrial entities in Germany presenting his proposal. He addressed specifically the city of Ulm, birthplace or Einstein.

Four different versions of the famous E=mcequation were developed on the basis of a cantilever circuit with the formula letters. The one on the extreme right was the first version to be scratched out because the mass (m) and light (c) were in capital letters and not lowercase.
